Basic information about the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce Our Evolution In 1928, 12 businessmen banded together to form the “Red Bank Chamber of Commerce” to serve the business interests of downtown Red Bank. Over the next 28 years, the organization's membership grew beyond the borders of Red Bank and was renamed the Greater Red Bank Chamber of Commerce and followed shortly thereafter by the Red Bank Area Chamber of Commerce. In 1995, our name – and our service area - was changed to the “Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce” to better reflect our growing membership and the rapidly expanding business interests in the neighboring communities of Eatontown, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Rumson, Sea Bright, Shrewsbury and Tinton Falls.

Brief Overview Helping business do business. The goal of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber (EMACC) is that simple, yet that complex. Frequently Asked Questions What does the Chamber do? The Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce serves the interests of member businesses through skills building seminars, legislative advocacy, promotional support and referral services. The Chamber provides the resources and creates initiatives, programs, products and events to assist businesses toward becoming prosperous and contributing members of the community. How old is the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce? The Chamber was founded in Red Bank in 1928. Is the Chamber a government entity? No. The Chamber is not a governmental entity. It is a 501(c)6 not-for-profit member organization. Does the Chamber receive any municipal, county or state tax dollars for its operation? No. The Chamber’s chief operating expenses are supported through annual member dues investments. Who “runs” the Chamber? The Chamber is a “member-driven” organization whose programs, events and purpose is determined by the needs and wants of its membership. A volunteer, 24 member Board of Directors is elected by the membership to oversee and guide the organization through its annual program of work. The day-to-day operations are under the direction of two full-time and two part-time paid staff members including the President/Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Membership Development and Programs, the Public Relations Manager and the Data Base Manager. A roster of over 130 volunteer committee members help create, organize and promote our monthly meetings and annual events. If my organization is a member business, can I as an employee of the member business, attend the various Chamber events at the member rate? Yes. Any employee of a Chamber member is entitled to all member privileges, discounts and opportunities. However, upon joining, the member must choose one main contact for inclusion on our mailing list and in our membership directory. How do I find out about Chamber events? The Chamber mails notices of upcoming events to all main contact members each month. These are followed up with fax broadcast and e-mail reminders. We also post our upcoming events online at our website www.emacc.org If I register for a fee-based event and don’t show up, will I still be charged a registration fee? Yes, you will be charged unless you provide advance notification of the cancellation. Cancellation deadlines are noted at the bottom of the registration form. Do I need to register for events? Yes, almost all of our events require pre-registration. Pre-registration allows us time to prepare professional nametags and order enough refreshments or materials to accommodate all our guests. Those arriving without pre-registering cannot be guaranteed admittance and may be charged an additional fee. I would like to serve on a committee. How do I choose the one for me and who do I contact? The Chamber has 11 committees and welcomes new members on each one, however, we want you to choose a committee that is the best “fit” for your schedule and your talents. We also want you to benefit from your service on a committee so we urge you to call us to learn more details about our various committees. I don’t have time to become heavily involved in Chamber events. Does that decrease the value of my membership? Not at all. We do more than simply host business events. In fact, because our membership is so diversified, we offer a wide range of programs and services that meet the unique needs of our members. Some members prefer the networking aspect of Chamber membership, while others like the advocacy and leadership we offer. All members are listed in the Official Membership Directory and in the online Directory of Businesses. The Chamber impacts economic and community growth through its affiliation with the Monmouth County Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Red Bank RiverCenter, S.C.O.R.E, the Red Bank Visitors Center, the N.F.I.B., the NJ State Chamber of Commerce, NJBIA and a host of other cultural, health and educational organizations. Your dues investment helps us all continue our work to attract new business, provide small business assistance and help improve the quality of life in the Eastern Monmouth Area. How much does it cost to join the Chamber? Membership dues are based on a company’s number of full-time employees or, for businesses with multiple offices (ie banks, real estate,) the number of branches located in our 10 town service area. I would like to let my customers and vendors know that I am a member of the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Can I use the Chamber’s logo in ads and other promotional items? We encourage you to show the pride you have in Chamber membership by using the Chamber logo.
